HC Deb 07 April 1870 vol 200 cc1432-3
MR. BAGWELL

said, he wished to ask the Under Secretary of State for India, Whether a Memorial has been presented by His Highness the Nawab Naziin of Bengal, Behar, and Orissa, to Her Majesty's Secretary of State for India in Council; whether any steps have been taken with respect to the Memorial; and, whether there is any objection to laying upon the Table of the House a Despatch, No. 30, of the 17th June 1864, from the Secretary of State for India in Council to the Viceroy and Governor General of India in Council?

MR. GRANT DUFF

said, in reply, that the Nawab Nazim was permitted, by a special act of favour, to present his memorial to the Secretary of State di- rectly instead of forwarding it through the Government of India according to the usual and well-understood practice. That memorial had been sent for report to the Government of India. There was no objection to laying on the Table the despatch of the 17th of June, 1864, which the hon. Gentleman asked for, if he would move for it.
