HC Deb 03 May 1869 vol 196 c20
MR. SERJEANT DOWSE

said, he would beg to ask the Chief Secretary for Ireland. Whether it is the intention of the Government to institute an inquiry into the origin and progress of the late riots in Londonderry, with a view to prevent any future public breach of the peace in that city?

MR. CHICHESTER FORTESCUE

, in reply, said, the hon. and learned Gentleman might rest assured that the subject was under the consideration of the Government; but it was premature to give a decided answer, seeing that the report of the inquest had not yet been received.
