HC Deb 18 March 1869 vol 194 cc1654-5
MR. O'REILLY

said, he wished to ask the Under Secretary of State for India, Whether he will have any objection to lay upon the Table Copies of the Memoranda or other official Documents which specify and describe the respective rights and functions with regard to Military Appointments in India of the Governor General, the Governor in Council, the Commander or Commanders in Chief, and other authorities?

MR. GRANT DUFF

said, in reply, that he knew of no such memoranda or other official documents as the hon. Gentleman had alluded to. The distribution of military appointments among the various authorities in India was regulated by custom and usage, which custom and usage had been expressly recognized by the 21 & 22 Vict. c. 105.
