MR. SAMUELSONsaid, he would beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether he will introduce a Bill next Session to extend, beyond the 1st of July 1870, such modications of the Factory and Workshops Acts of 1867, more especially those relating to male young persons above the age of sixteen, as have been proved to be necessary or advantageous, "but which would otherwise cease on that day; and, whether he will deal with the whole subject of the Laws relating to the employment of women, young persons, and children by a consolidating and amending Statute?
MR. BRUCEsaid, in reply, that the subject to which the Question of his hon. Friend referred was one which deserved 684 most serious consideration, and very probably it would be expedient to extend the period for the modifications of the Factory and Workshops Acts of 1867. He could hardly venture to undertake to deal next Session with the whole subject of the laws relating to the employment of women, young persons, and children by a consolidating and amending statute; but he would carefully consider how the Workshops Regulation Act could be further assimilated to the factory legislation.
