HC Deb 19 April 1869 vol 195 cc1096-7
MR. HUNT

said, he wished to ask the President of the Poor Law Board, Whether he intends to deal with the question of vagrancy this Session?

MR. GOSCHEN

said, in reply, that the subject of vagrancy had much occupied the attention both of his right hon. Friend the Home Secretary and himself. They had received a large number of suggestions on the subject, and all were agreed that the law was at present in a very unsatisfactory state, and were anxious for fresh legislation; but he did not think he could undertake to legislate on the subject this Session. If the business before them were to make such progress that there was the slightest chance for the House to engage in the subject, he would be glad to do so, but he did not think that at all likely.
