HC Deb 16 April 1869 vol 195 cc975-6
SIR HERBERT CROFT

said, he wished to ask the Under Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether he intends to introduce a Bill during the present Session to amend the Salmon Fishery Laws of England?

MR. KNATCHBULL-HUGESSEN,

in reply, said, he had stated to a deputation at the Home Office, early in the present Session, that a Bill would be introduced to amend the Salmon Fishery Laws, and he was anxious still to fulfil that pledge. Having, however, entered upon the subject with an innocent confidence, he found that this approximated to rashness, not only on account of the difficulty of the subject itself, but of the almost irreconcilable differences of opinion existing between those who concurred in desiring to bring about a change. He would do his best, however, to reconcile conflicting views, and still hoped that a measure acceptable to the House might be introduced.
