HC Deb 18 May 1868 vol 192 c425
SIR J. CLARKE JERVOISE

said, he would beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether his attention has been called to Page 55 of the twenty-ninth Annual Report of the Registrar General, in which it is stated that "Cholera matter (cholerine) has evidently been diffused all over the Kingdom;" what is the evidence of the existence of that "zymotic element;" and whether it has been accepted as a scientific truth?

MR. GATHORNE HARDY

said, in reply, that, in consequence of the Question of the hon. Baronet, he had looked into the Report of the Registrar General, and found that the passage referred to was there. He freely owned, however, that he was entirely uninformed on the subject, and was unable to say whether there was any evidence of the existence of the "zymotic element," or whether it was accepted as a scientific truth.
