§ MR. LAYARDsaid, he would beg to ask the Secretary of State for India, Whether any progress has been made in appointing of ancient monuments in India, and whether he is now able to lay the Correspondence on the subject upon the Table of the House?
§ SIR STAFFORD NORTHCOTEsaid, in reply, that the Governor General in Council had adopted a system, not only for the preservation of these monuments, but also for taking casts and photographs and forwarding them to this country. During the present year four parties had been sent out under the direction of officers of the Public Works Department who would select the monuments to be copied.
