MR. GLADSTONEsaid, he would beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether the Government intend to proceed that night with this Bill, which was simply a retrospective one; what view the Government took of the Orders in Council which they propose to confirm; and, whether they intend to extend the application of the Bill to similar Orders in Council which may be passed in future?
§ MR. GATHORNE HARDYsaid, in reply, that the Bill would be taken on Monday, so as to enable those hon. Members who were absent, and who desired to take part in the discussion upon it, to be in attendance. The Bill in question was specifically drawn with a retrospective object; but it might become necessary to legislate with regard to the future upon this subject.
