§ MR. SHAW-LEFEVREsaid, in the absence of his hon. Friend (Sir John Simeon), he would beg to ask the Secretary of State for War, Whether his attention has been called to the system of employing soldiers in trades and callings which has been for some time pursued at Parkhurst Barracks; whether he is satisfied with the success of the experiment; and, whether he is prepared to recommend the adoption of the principle in other Depot Battalions?
§ SIR JOHN PAKINGTONsaid, in reply, that he was happy to say that the system of employing soldiers in barracks had been found to work very satisfactorily. The system had been already extended to the other depots, and it was the intention of the War Office to still further extend it.
