HC Deb 02 April 1868 vol 191 c702
MR. J. STUART MILL

said, he would beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury, Whether it is his intention to propose any measure, either separately or as a provision, in the Election Petitions and Corrupt Practices at Elections Bill, for the prevention of bribery at Municipal Elections?

MR. DISRAELI

Sir, the subject to which the Question of the hon. Member relates is one of very great importance, but I am not prepared to deal with it in the manner he suggests. I shall make every possible effort to carry the Bill which refers to Parliamentary Elections before the dissolution. I think that that is a matter of the greatest moment; but I do not contemplate mixing it up with the subject referred to by the hon. Member.
