said, he would beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, If he can inform the House whether or not any grants of money have been made by any prison authority in England, or by any county board in Scotland, to the Managers of any Reformatory or Industrial School, for the purpose of building, altering, enlarging, or rebuilding any such school?

MR. GATHORNE HARDY

said, that under the Act of last Session it was not necessary that any representation should be made to the Home Office of any sums granted to the Managers of Reformatories or Industrial Schools. All that was necessary was that any plans for improvements should be submitted to the Secretary of State.
