HC Deb 08 February 1867 vol 185 c146
MR. DENT

asked the Vice President of the Committee of Council, If he can give the House any information as to the cause and extent of the recent outbreak of Cattle Plague in the Metropolis?

MR. CORRY

As to the first part of the hon. Gentleman's Question, relating to the cause of the recent outbreak of cattle disease in the metropolis, I beg to inform him that the Privy Council caused an immediate and searching inquiry into the subject, but as yet it has received no satisfactory information. In respect to the second part of the hon. Gentleman's Question—the extent of the disease—it appears that forty-six animals had been exposed to the infection, the whole of which were slaughtered under pressure of the Privy Council, or the local authority, but not until twenty-eight had caught the disease. The first case occurred on the 28th of last month. No fresh case has been reported.
