HC Deb 01 August 1867 vol 189 c604
MR. WHALLEY

said, he would beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether, as he has stated it to be his intention to proceed with the Turnpike Acts Continuance Bill at this period of the Session, and in its present form, he has adverted to the opinion of Committees of this House that Tolls are a form of taxation— Unequal in pressure, costly in collection, inconvenient to the public, injurious, and a serious impediment to intercourse and traffic?

MR. GATHORNE HARDY

said, in reply, that he had made himself acquainted with the Reports of those Committees.
