HC Deb 28 May 1866 vol 183 c1311
MAJOR JERVIS

said, he would beg to ask the Secretary of State for War, Why the extra pay for the Professor of Military History at Sandhurst has been fixed so as to give a Captain or Subaltern of the Line £350 per annum, including their regimental pay, while a Captain or Subaltern of Artillery would only get £292 and £216 respectively; whether it is with the view of preventing Officers of the Ordnance Corps competing for such appointments?

THE MARQUESS OF HARTINGTON

said, in reply, that the officers of the Line at Sandhurst received a fixed salary; whereas the officers of Engineers and. Artillery received indirect pay in addition to their fixed pay. The matter, however, was now under consideration, and there was some difficulty in arriving at a conclusion on it.
