HC Deb 03 May 1866 vol 183 cc363-4
MR. ACLAND

said, he would beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether any Committee of the Privy Council has been appointed to superintend the operation of the Orders in Council on the subject of the Cattle Plague; if no such Committee has been appointed, whether any and which Mem- ber of the Administration is responsible for the consideration of questions relating to the movement of Cattle and the supply of Meat; and whether there is any Officer of the Government to whom suggestions as to the working of the Orders in Council and of the Local Authorities may be addressed with a prospect of their being considered?

SIR GEORGE GREY

said, in reply, that no special Committee of the Privy Council had been appointed to superintend the operation of the Order in Council; but Colonel Harness had been appointed to receive suggestions and to conduct the correspondence, under the directions of the Privy Council; and a meeting of the Privy Council, presided over by the President, was held from time to time, before whom all suggestions received by Colonel Harness or questions addressed to him were brought by him before the Members of the Council for their decision, and answers were sent according to their directions.
