HC Deb 08 June 1866 vol 184 c531
MR. BLAKE

said, he wished to ask the Chief Secretary for Ireland, Whether it is the intention of Government to proceed with the Tenure and Improvement of Land (Ireland) Bill, so as to afford an opportunity for its being legislated on during the present Session; and, if so, whether he will also state what day Government will give for the resumption of the adjourned debate on the second reading?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER

Sir, in answer to the Question of the hon. Member, I have to state that the Government are extremely anxious to proceed with the Bill; but at present it is impossible for them to fix a day for it with the prospect of closing the debate on the second reading, inasmuch as they cannot make sure of doing that at a morning sitting. They are unable, therefore, to fix a time for this Bill until further progress is made with the Reform Bill. I may take the opportunity of mentioning that Government propose to take Supply to-morrow at twelve o'clock.
