HC Deb 31 July 1866 vol 184 c1762
MR. ALDERMAN LAWRENCE

said, he would beg to ask the First Commissioner of Works, Whether, in consequence of the large number of persons who will be turned out of their homes in the neighbourhood of Temple Bar and the Strand by the clearing of the site for the New Courts of Justice, he will bring in a Bill in the next Session of Parliament for the purchase of Waterloo Bridge and opening the same to the public free, there being no free bridge between Blackfriars and Westminster Bridges, a distance of nearly two miles?

LORD JOHN MANNERS

Sir, it is not my intention to introduce such a measure.
