MAJOR STUART KNOXsaid, he wished to ask, Whether the Government propose to bring in separate Bills for the re-distribution of seats for the three Kingdoms; and, if so, whether the pledge given by them to place the Bill for the Re-distribution of Seats in England and Wales on the table of the House before going into Committee on the Franchise Bill applies, also, to the cases of Scotland and Ireland?
THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUERAs far, Sir, as I can judge, I cannot say that I think such a division as that which the hon. and gallant Gentleman indicates would be necessary with respect to the Reform measures for Scotland and Ireland. The pledge, however, which the Government have given with regard to the English Bill would apply to the subject-matter of their proposals for 1648 Scotland and Ireland as it might ultimately be deemed expedient or not to put them in the shape of one or three Bills.
