HC Deb 12 April 1866 vol 182 cc1122-3
COLONEL ANNESLEY

said, he would beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colonies, Whether any steps have been taken by Her Majesty's Government for the protection of the interests of our fishermen on the coast of British North America, on the termination of the Reciprocity Treaty with the United States?

MR. CARDWELL,

in reply, said, notice had been given to the Governor General of Canada and to the Governors of all the other Provinces in British North America, that in consequence of the termination of the Reciprocity Treaty with America the relations between this country had been altered, and instructions had been prepared by Her Majesty's Government suitable to those altered relations.
