HC Deb 05 May 1865 vol 178 c1535
MR. W. E. FORSTER

said, he wished to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Whether the reduced Tariff on British goods in Prussia and the Zoll-verein will come into operation on the 1st July next?

MR. LAYARD

said, in reply, that in consequence of the Treaties between France, Prussia, and the Zollverein States a considerable reduction would take place in the Zollverein Tariff; that reduction would extend to all countries, England included; and that would be the case whether the treaty between this country and the Zollverein should be concluded before the 1st of July or not. He hoped, however, that would be the case.
