HC Deb 04 May 1865 vol 178 c1467
MR. HEYGATE

said, he would beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether, in consequence of the Report of Mr. Baker, Inspector of Factories, as to the employment of children and young girls in the Clay Yards of South Staffordshire, it is the intention of Her Majesty's Government to propose the further extension of the Factories Act, or other legislation with reference thereto in the present Session, with a view to the prevention of the excessive labour and demoralizing scenes described in such Report?

SIR GEORGE GREY

replied, that an inquiry was now in progress about work in Clay Yards, but it was not yet completed.
