HC Deb 27 February 1865 vol 177 cc748-9
MR. M'MAHON

said, he wished to ask the Chief Secretary for Ireland, When the Brehon Laws will be published, and whether he is about to take any steps for transmitting to the Dublin Record Office copies of those parts of the English Rolls relating to Ireland?

MR. PEEL,

in reply, said, he understood it was intended very shortly to publish the two first volumes of an edition of the Brehon Laws, and he believed that one volume would be published in the course of next month. With regard to the other part of the Question, the Government thought the papers which were of the most historical interest to Ireland were the Carew papers in the Lambeth Library, relating to the reign of Henry II. and Queen Elizabeth, and the Carte papers in the Bodleian Library, extending from the Reformation to the end of the reign of George I. It was intended to proceed almost immediately with the calendaring of the Carew papers.
