§ MR. LAYARDsaid, that as soon as information was received of the state of things on the River Plate in December last instructions were sent to the Admiral commanding the squadron in the neighbourhood to afford all necessary protection to the lives and property of British subjects. No further information had been received since the date mentioned by the hon. Gentleman.
