SIR FREDERIC SMITHasked the Under Secretary of State for War, Whether he has received the Report of the Committee appointed to inquire into the condition of the Regimental Quartermasters, and whether it is intended to lay it upon the table of the House, or to take any action upon it?
THE MARQUESS OF HARTLNGTONsaid, the Report in question had been received, and there would be no objection to lay it on the table. The Committee made several recommendations, some of them involving questions of a financial nature, which would, of course, require the consideration of the War Office and the Treasury. Other recommendations involved matters affecting the discipline and internal organization of the army, and they would have to undergo the consideration of the Secretary of State for War and the Commander-in-Chief. In bringing forward the Army Estimates, he would state what were the recommendations of the Committee, and how far the War Office proposed to take action upon them.
