HC Deb 15 March 1864 vol 174 cc17-8
LORD ROBERT MONTAGU

said, the Secretary of the Treasury had given notice that he would ask for Votes on account of the Civil Service Estimates on Thursday. Only No. 6 and No. 2 had yet been presented. He trusted the right hon. Gentle- man would give an undertaking that the course pursued the last year should not be taken again—namely, the voting of sums on account in the early part of the evening and the balance at a later period.

MR. PEEL

said, the Vote on account which he proposed to move on Thursday was similar to the Vote taken last year at the same time. It was necessary to provide for the first quarter's payments in the ensuing year, and not to provide for any new service.
