HC Deb 15 March 1864 vol 174 c11
MR. HUBBARD

said, he would beg to ask the hon. Member for Dudley, Whether he will postpone his Motion for a Bill to reduce the Duty on Fire Insurances until after the Budget?

MR. H. B. SHERIDAN

said, in reply, that the Notice of Motion which stood in his name, and the Notice of Amendment given by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, raised the same issue which was submitted to the House last year, and on which the House expressed an opinion by a large majority, that the Duty on Fire Insurances should be one of the first duties repealed or reduced. He thought he should be wasting the time of the House if he again brought forward the question without giving the Chancellor of the Exchequer an opportunity in his statement on the Budget of carrying out the expressed wishes of the House, and he would therefore, with the permission of the House, postpone his Motion on the subject until after the Financial Statement of the Chancellor of the Exchequer.
