HC Deb 14 March 1864 vol 173 c1906
MR. W. EWART

said, he wished to ask the Under Secretary of State for War, Whether it is proposed to afford Soldiers in the different Camps in the Country, and Generally where practicable, facilities for cultivating gardens, as was the practice on the Continent, and as has been recommended by a Military Commission?

THE MARQUESS OF HARTINGTON

, in reply, said, the wish of Earl de Grey was to afford the soldiers every possible facility for the cultivation of gardens. Wherever practicable, as at Aldershot, a commencement had already been made. The recommendations to which his hon. Friend referred were again under the consideration of the military authorities, and he hoped to be able shortly to announce that they would be adopted.
