HC Deb 11 March 1864 vol 173 c1818
MR. AUGUSTUS SMITH

said, he would beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade, Whether any Observations have been made for the purpose of recording the actual weather corresponding to Admiral Fitzroy's daily forecasts and occasional warning signals; and, if so, whether there will be any objection to lay the results before the House?

MR. MILNER GIBSON

, in reply, said, he had to state that observations had been made during the past year with a view to comparing the actual weather with the predictions which had been made by Admiral Fitzroy, and the Board of Trade were endeavouring to digest that information, and to put it in a shape which would be intelligible to the House, and when that had been done, and when Admiral Fitzroy had had an opportunity of seeing this information, and of making his remarks upon it, he hoped to be able to lay it before the House; and he might also state that by the kindness of the French authorities the Board of Trade had received a similar comparison which was made at Brest, and if possible that information would be laid on the table of the House at the same time.
