§ MR. WATKINsaid, he wished to ask the Secretary to the Admiralty Whether Her Majesty's Government bearing in mind the existence and extension of the Naval Stations of the United States near San Francisco, and of Russia at Sitka, propose to establish any means for enabling the docking and repair of Her Majesty's ships in the North Pacific; and if so, whether the barbour of Esquimalt has been selected as the site?
§ MR. CHILDERS, in reply, said, the Government had received a proposal from a company for the construction of a dock at the end of Esquimalt Bay, and asking for certain water rights, and offering that Her Majesty's ships should have access- to the dock. Under certain restrictions with regard to the powers of the Indian Council, those rights had also stated the number of ships that had also state the umber of ships that would in all probability use that dock. There was no other proposal at present on the subject, but there was a committee now sitting upon the docks for the use of the Navy, both at home and abroad, before which the matter wound come.
