§ MR. GODDARDsaid, he would beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, in the absence of the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Whether he is able to inform the House on what day before Easter he will make his Financial Statement?
§ SIR GEORGE GREYsaid, his right hon. Friend had purposed being in his place to answer the question. However, he might state that it was intended to make the financial statement immediately after the Easter recess. He could not mention the day just then, but that would be done this day or to-morrow.
§ Afterwards—
§ THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUERA question was put during my absence with regard to the date at which the financial statement will probably be made. It is rather early at present to fix the date definitely, but it will not he before the recess, inasmuch as that takes place in March, and the financial year will not then have concluded. As far as I can judge, if that date should meet the convenience of the House, the statement will be made on Thursday, the 7th of April.
