SHERIDANsaid, he would beg to ask Mr. Chancellor of the Exchequer, Whether it is his intention to proceed with the Government Annuities Bill this evening; and whether, considering that the Title of the Bill does not fully convey the real objects of the Bill, and that the Bill hitherto has passed through two stages without being fully understood; and further, considering the great interests affected by the proposed alteration of the Law, he would have any objection to postpone, for a short time, the further consideration of the measure?
§ THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER,in reply, said, he had no objection whatever to postpone the further consideration of the measure for a short time. He was very sorry that the object of the Bill had not been understood, because it was of a simple character, and he considered that he had been careful to explain to the House upon its introduction its nature and provisions. But as the Bill had not been long before the House, ho had no objection to postpone the Committee on the Bill until Monday week.
