§ SIR STAFFORD NORTHCOTEsaid, he wished to ask the Secretary of State 681 for the Home Department, Whether it is true, as has been publicly stated, that a communication has recently been made by him to the Archbishop of Canterbury, to the effect that the Government will not sanction any step being taken towards the establishment of a Bishopric of Cornwall; whether he has received any communication with regard to the appointment of a Suffragan Bishop for the diocese of Exeter; and, if so, what answer he has made to it; and whether he will have any objection to lay the Correspondence on the subject upon the table of the House?
§ SIR GEORGE GREYsaid, he had received a letter from the Archbishop of Canterbury, with regard to a proposed division of the diocese of Exeter and the formation of a new diocese of Cornwall. There was no objection to produce the letter, and the answer made to it on the part of the Government.
