§ MR. HOPWOODsaid, he would beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, in the absence of the First Lord of the Treasury, If he would be willing to propose a Conference on American Affairs?
§ SIR GEORGE GREYSir, Her Majesty's Government have no intention whatever of proposing a Conference upon American affairs. If the hon. Gentleman means a Conference, comprising representatives from all the European Governments, I can see no ground that has been laid for such a proposal, to which it is quite certain the Government of the United States would not agree.
