HC Deb 28 April 1864 vol 174 cc1773-4
MR. FERRAND

said, he rose to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether Mr. Rawlinson has sent in his Report on the state of the Sheffield Reservoirs; if so, whether he will lay it upon the table of the House; if he has yet sent in his Report on the Bradford Reservoirs; and if he has been engaged in inspecting any other than the Sheffield and Bradford Reservoirs under the authority of the Home Office?

SIR GEORGE GREY

, in reply, said, Mr. Rawlinson had not yet sent in his Report on the state of the Reservoirs, He had been very much engaged in Lancashire. He was sure the hon. Gentleman wished the Report when sent in should be complete. But Mr. Rawlinson had assured him, a few days ago, that he had been preparing his report, in communication with Mr. Beardmore, with regard to the Sheffield Reservoir, Mr. Beardmore being associated with him in that examination. He had also promised to furnish Reports on the Bradford Reservoir, and had inspected two other Reservoirs, one near Dewsbury, and the other at Burnley, in Lancashire. That was a Reservoir erected out of money raised under the Public Works Act. He said in regard to all the Reservoirs that were considered unsafe the water had been drawn off, and an assurance given that they would not be again filled until they had been examined by a competent civil engineer, so that there was no local danger now.

MR. FERRAND

Was not the same assurance given two years ago by the Mayor of Bradford?

SIR GEORGE GREY

said, an assurance was given that the water should be drawn off when repairs were going on.
