AYTOUNsaid, he would beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Colo- 1771 nies, Whether he is in possession of such information as would enable him to lay upon the table of the House Returns of the number of persons employed in Canada in manufacturing such descriptions of goods as are charged with duty on entering that country; and, if so, whether he has any objection to do so? And if any efforts have at any time been made to induce the Canadian Government to remove or reduce the duties charged upon British goods entering Canada; and, if so, whether he has any objection to lay upon the table of the House copies of any Correspondence which may have taken place upon this subject?
§ MR. CARDWELL, in reply, said, he was ready to lay the Correspondence on the table if his hon. Friend would move for it. With reference to the first part of the Question, he had not in his possession any information to enable him to make the Returns.
