HC Deb 12 March 1863 vol 169 cc1328-9
MR. BLAKE

said, he rose to ask the Chief Secretary for Ireland, Whether he intends, during the present Session, to introduce a measure for the better Regulation of Fairs and Markets in Ireland?

SIR ROBERT PEEL

said, he last year introduced a Bill for the Regulation of Fairs and Markets in Ireland, which received very considerable support; but, owing to the pressure of other business, the whole Bill did not pass. A very important portion of it, however—namely, what related to the reformation of weights and measures—had passed, and was in force in Ireland since the commencement of the present year. The Government had no intention to introduce any Bill on the subject until the working of that measure had been seen.
