§ LORD GEORGE CAVENDISHsaid, he wished to ask the President of the Poor Law Board, Whether he means to take any steps with reference to a rate in aid for the distressed Unions in the counties of Lancashire, Cheshire, and Derbyshire?
§ MR. C. P. VILLIERSsaid, he understood his noble Friend to ask, whether, if the Bill authorizing a rate in aid was renewed, the Clause relative to that rate in aid would again be proposed. That Bill would not expire until September, and he was not at present in a position to say whether the House would pass that part of the Bill which provided for a rate in aid.
§ LORD GEORGE CAVENDISHsaid, it would be necessary to come to a decision before long because, if the rate was to be renewed, the Bill must be immediately re-enacted.
