said, he wished to ask the Under Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Whether he can inform the House if it is true that the Italian Government have sent a Special Envoy to tins country to negotiate a new Commercial Treaty?

MR. LAYARD

said, it was well known that the Italian Government had shown great liberality in their commercial policy towards this country. It was quite true that they had sent Signor Mariani, an eminent Member of the Italian Chamber, as a special Commissioner to this country to negotiate such a treaty.
