MR. SLANEY

said, he would beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, If he will introduce a clause in the Highways Bill to enforce the repairs of footpaths being highways across fields and elsewhere near great towns?

SIR GEORGE GREY

said, he was not quite sure that such a clause would come directly within the purpose of the Highways Bill; but he would recommend his hon. Friend to give notice of a clause to the effect stated, and the matter would be considered.
