THE O'DONOGHUESir, I wish to ask the First Lord of the Treasury, Whether it is the intention of the Government to carry out the views of the Postmaster General, expressed in a recent Letter, and annul the Galway Contract?
§ VISCOUNT PALMERSTONSir, the communication made to the Galway Company by the Postmaster General was not the announcement of a decision of the Post Office, but was the communication of a decision of the Government. It is of course competent to the parties concerned to make to the Government any recommendation which they may think fit in regard to the communication so conveyed to them; and it will be for the Government to decide as they shall think fit upon any such representation as may be made to them. I would, however, remind the hon. Gentleman that a Motion proposed by my hon. Friend the Member for Galway has been agreed to, for the production of all the correspondence upon this subject, and when that correspondence is before us the House will be in a better position than they can now be to form a judgment upon this matter.
