HC Deb 02 May 1861 vol 162 cc1374-5
MR. LIDDELL

said, he wished to ask the Secretary to the Admiralty, What steps have been, or are being, taken by the Government for carrying out the Recommendations of the Commissioners appointed to inquire into the affairs of Green- wich Hospital; and also, whether he will lay upon the Table of the House a Copy of the Regulations?

LORD CLARENCE PAGET

said, that various alterations had been made according to the recommendations of the Commissioners. The schools had been amalgamated and placed upon a new footing, the patronage of the Admiralty had ceased, and admission to the schools was left in the hands of the Commissioners of Greenwich Hospital. With respect to the government of Greenwich Hospital, the Duke of Somerset had introduced a Bill to the other House having for its object to improve the management of that institution. There would be no objection to lay upon the table a copy of the regulations, but he might state at once that the allowance to the Pensioners had been increased—the first class receiving 5s. a week, and the second and third classes 4s. and 3s. respectively.
