LANIGANsaid, he would beg to ask the Chief Secretary for Ireland, Whether Her Majesty's Government have any intention of introducing (this Session) any Bill authorizing the Poor Law Commissioners to grant compensation to Workhouse officers who, having spent the best portion of their lives in the Public Service, may become, from old age or other causes, unable to discharge their duties?
§ MR. CARDWELLsaid, the subject of compensation to retired Poor Law Officers in Ireland was one well worthy of consideration, and he had no doubt it would be well considered by the Committee on the Administration of the Irish Poor Law.
