FENWICKsaid, he would beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department, Whether the attention of Her Majesty's Government has been turned to the Endowments in the hands of the University of Durham, and the educational results shown by a Return recently presented to this House; and whether it is intended to take any steps in consequence?
SIR GEORGE LEWISsaid, his attention had been drawn to the subject, and the information he had received led him to believe that the endowments connected with the University of Durham were almost practically wasted. He hoped shortly to be able to give notice of a measure for appointing a Commission for Durham University similar to those which had been appointed with reference to the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge.
