§ MR. BUTLER JOHNSTONEsaid, he wished to ask the Under Secretary of State for War, How many Candidates are on the list for admission to Sandhurst and Woolwich at the present time; also the average number of direct Commissions from each College annually for the last five years?
MR. T. G. BARINGsaid, the number of Candidates for admission to Sandhurst was 164, and for Woolwich 266. The number of Commissions from Sandhurst during the last five years was thirty-four upon the average of each year, and from Woolwich eighty, of which number fifty were to the Artillery and thirty to the Engineers.
