said, he would beg to ask the Secretary of State for India, Whether Courts for the adjudication of small causes will be created in the Mofussil in India; and whether the Judges appointed in them will be Barristers or men of legal training, with a sufficient knowledge of the language of the country within their jurisdiction?

SIR CHARLES WOOD

said, that the Government of India had determined on. the establishment of small courts in the Mofussil, and were preparing to carry that resolution into effect. Barristers would be appointed, is some cases to these Courts, and he had stated his opinion to the Government of India, that it was indispensable that they should possess a knowledge of the language of the district in which they were to be stationed.

Motion made, and Question proposed, "That Mr. Speaker do now leave the Chair."
