SIR WILLIAM SOMERVILLE

moved for leave to introduce a Bill to prevent the disfranchisement of Parliamentary electors in Ireland by reason of their letting out portions of their holdings in the ordinary course of the occupation of the same.

MR. VANCE and COLONEL DICKSON

opposed the introduction of the Bill at the present late period of the Session, when many Irish Members were absent.

Motion made, and Question put, That leave be given to bring in a Bill to prevent the Disfranchisement of Parliamentary Electors in Ireland by reason of their letting out portions of their holdings in the ordinary course of the occupation of the same.

The House divided:—Ayes 20; Noes 22: Majority 2.

Motion negatived.
