STEUARTsaid, that having received letters informing him that during the late election for the county of Aberdeen there had been serious riots, in the course of which several voters had been maltreated and injured—one so severely, that he had since died—he wished to ask the learned Lord Advocate, Whether he had received any similar intelligence; and, if so, whether he had taken any steps to suppress such riots, and to prevent their recurrence in future?
THE LORD ADVOCATEsaid, that his hon. Friend had not given him notice of his intention to ask this Question, but he had no hesitation in answering it, because he had received no information whatever upon the subject to which it referred.
