HC Deb 16 April 1861 vol 162 c643
MAJOR STUART KNOX

said, he wished to ask the Chief Secretary for Ireland, Whether there is any intention on the part of the Government (in pursuance of the advice of the Irish Judges and other legal authorities) to take measures for the reduction of the rates of Duty payable on proceedings under the 88th Section of the Landed Estates Act; namely, 10s. per cent under £10,000, and £1 per cent above that amount, in consequence of which high rates many persons are precluded from taking advantage of the Act?

MR. CARDWELL

stated that the propriety of modifying the rates of duty payable on proceedings under the 88th Section of the Landed Estates Act was now under consideration, and that be hoped soon to be able to make a satisfactory statement on the subject.
