KINGLAKErose, to put the question to the Secretary for Foreign Affairs of which he had given notice — namely, Whether the Swiss Confederation persisted in asking for a Conference relative to the neutral provinces of Savoy, and whether Her Majesty's Government supported the Confederation in making the demand?
§ LORD JOHN RUSSELLUp to the present time—and I had a despatch from our Minister in Switzerland this morning —the Swiss Confederation continues to ask for the meeting of a Conference on the subject of the neutralization of part of Savoy. Her Majesty's Government supported that proposal from the first, and unless the Swiss Government themselves abandon or withdraw that demand, we shall continue to support it.
